Addictions We Treat

Table of Contents

Getting addiction treatment is a smart idea for many reasons. Firstly, it provides individuals with the necessary support and resources to overcome their substance use disorder. Without treatment, the cycle of addiction can continue, leading to problems in someone’s life like health issues, strained relationships, and legal problems.

Addiction treatment offers a structured environment where individuals can learn coping skills, receive therapy, and develop strategies to prevent relapse. Treatment also addresses underlying issues contributing to addiction, such as trauma or mental health disorders, helping individuals achieve long-term recovery and improve their overall quality of life. Seeking addiction treatment is a proactive step towards reclaiming control over one’s life and future.

Aliya Health Group provides substance use disorder recovery programs for all. Our programs are rooted in dignity and compassion so you can focus on healing.

Substance Use Disorders

Substance use disorders (SUDs) involve a pattern of uncontrollable drug use that creates significant problems and distress in a person’s life. This addiction can show up differently depending on the substance abused, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe and often paired with other mental health challenges like depression or anxiety.

We treat the following substance use disorders:

Substance use disorders are diagnosed based on specific criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) and can be treated through various interventions, including therapy, medications, and support groups.
In general, substance abuse falls into two categories: alcohol and other drugs. Here’s more information about both types of substance use disorders.

Alcohol Use Disorder

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a health condition that involves a problematic pattern of alcohol use, leading to significant distress or impairment. People with AUD may find it difficult to control their drinking, experience strong cravings for alcohol, and continue to drink despite negative consequences on their health, relationships, or responsibilities.

It’s important to note that alcohol addiction can present differently from one person to the next. While many people who suffer from alcohol addiction struggle with heavy drinking patterns, others may suffer from binge drinking cycles. According to NIAAA, heavy alcohol use consists of having 5 or more drinks per day (+15 drinks per week) for men, and 4 or more drinks per day (+8 drinks per week) for women. On the other hand, binge drinking occurs when someone habitually exceeds the legal alcohol limit (blood alcohol concentration of 0.08%).

Symptoms of AUD can range from mild to severe and may include increased tolerance to alcohol, withdrawal symptoms when not drinking, unsuccessful attempts to cut down or stop drinking, and spending a lot of time obtaining, using, or recovering from alcohol abuse. For this reason, some people may have severe symptoms and life-altering consequences, while others may appear to function normally despite their addiction.

Drug Use Disorder

Drug use disorders cover a wide array of substances with potential risks of misuse. These include opioids, marijuana, stimulants, hallucinogens, and inhalants. Despite some substances being viewed as less harmful, all addictive drugs can lead to dependency and addiction, causing profound physical, mental, and emotional effects.

Initially, individuals may believe they have control over their drug use, but over time, this control slips away, impacting various aspects of their lives. Addiction takes hold, causing individuals to prioritize drug use despite negative consequences, often neglecting their health, careers, and relationships.

The repercussions of drug abuse extend beyond relationships, affecting health significantly. It can lead to serious medical conditions like heart attacks, strokes, and organ damage. Drug abuse can result in short-term and long-term changes in mental and behavioral patterns, greatly affecting an individual’s overall well-being.
